Simple text and large, close-up photos tell the life story of the American pika, a mountain-dwelling, hamster-size relative of the rabbit. The body of the book describes the pika’s survival strategy of storing food for the winter and briefly discusses mate selection and family life. Several pages of back matter provide additional facts about habitat, physical characteristics, and predators. An informative look at an endearing, little creature.
