Owl Lake

by Keizaburo Tejima
Philomel, 1987

Like many of the best picture books, this beautiful volume is deceptively simple. Graphic, dramatic woodcuts illustrate the night flights of an owl family, and the English translation of the original Japanese is spare and poetic. Together, words and pictures cast a spell. Be prepared to hear “Read it again!”
