Into the Sky

Into the Sky

by Ryan Ann Hunter
illustrated by Edward Miller
Holiday House, 1998

Simple, straightforward text is well paired with striking, graphic-style illustrations in this appealing picture book. Proceeding from the world’s first skyscraper (built 100 years ago and only 10 stories high) to present-day plans for buildings almost 200 stories tall, the book briefly and clearly explains the construction process. A nice bonus is the map on the endpapers, which displays pictures and locations of celebrated skyscrapers.
