I Know How We Fight Germs

I Know How We Fight Germs

by Kate Rowan
illustrated by Katharine McEwen
Candlewick Press, 1998

Sam and his mother talk about colds and bacteria and viruses, while Sam envisions sneezing elephants, germs with little horns and eye patches, and germ munchers brandishing forks and knives as they chase pickle-shaped germs. The story is slight, but the science is clearly explained in simple, child-friendly language, and the illustrations are appealingly funny.
