Hidden Animals

by Valerie Guidoux, translated by Al Daigen
illustrations by Pierre Caillou and Anne Eydoux
Firefly Books, 2006
This entertaining, clearly written book examines where animals hide and why. Instead of showing photographs of camouflaged creatures, it offers a variety of pullouts, foldouts, and other interactive features that reveal numerous examples of hiding places and disguise techniques. The text includes occasional references to predator-prey encounters that might upset sensitive children, but the appealing cartoon-style illustrations keep things from getting too scary.
