Fire Truck

by Peter Sis
HarperCollins, 1998
To a truck-obsessed youngster, becoming a firefighter doesn't sound nearly as exciting as becoming a fire truck. In this simple, delightful story, that's just what happens to Matt, who wakes up one morning with sirens and flashing lights. Thrilled, he rescues pet cats and teddy bears and puts out (imaginary) fires, until breakfast beckons. There are few words and not much of a narrative, but Sis's striking artwork, in heavy black lines with pops of red, is bold and charming.
