Face to Face with Lions

Face to Face with Lions

by Beverly and Dereck Joubert
National Geographic, 2008

Written and photographed by an award-winning husband-and-wife team, this handsome chapter book takes readers “face to face” with African lions. Filled with chatty anecdotes about the authors’ wild encounters, it conveys a wealth of information about lion life and concludes with a strong conservation message. The personal stories (“how not to get eaten by a lion”) and beautiful closeup photos are fascinating but may be too exciting (think lion eating zebra)--and the text too long--for younger or sensitive children.
