Even an Ostrich Needs a Nest

by Irene Kelly
Holiday House, 2009
Despite the title, ostriches aren’t discussed in this entertaining picture book, but 40 other species of birds and their nests are. Birds from every continent are included, and a map shows where they live. Readers will be entranced not only by the intriguing details about unusual nests (the carmine bee-eater digs an eight-foot tunnel into a cliff and lines it with smelly insects to keep predators away) but also by the book’s charming illustrations and playfully curving text.
