Energy Island

Energy Island

by Allan Drummond
Farrar Straus Giroux, 2011

Hold on to your hats! This engaging picture book tells the inspiring true story of the Danish island of Samsø, whose residents harnessed wind energy to drastically reduce their carbon emissions and achieve energy independence. Told in a relaxed, conversational style, with plenty of lively, amusing illustrations and informative sidebars (which can be studied or ignored, as readers wish), the book makes a great read-aloud for younger children but also offers older readers--including adults--much to think about and enjoy. Who knew energy conservation could be so fascinating?
