Dinosaurs at the Ends of the Earth

by Brian Floca
Dorling Kindersley Publishing, 2000
The fossil-hunting expeditions to Mongolia led by Roy Chapman Andrews in the 1920s made history when they unearthed the first dinosaur eggs ever found, establishing that the prehistoric creatures were not born, but hatched. This remarkable picture book tells a fictionalized account of the discovery with dramatic double-page illustrations and engrossing descriptions of the challenges the expedition team faced. Crossing the Gobi Desert by car, the intrepid adventurers endured blistering heat and sandstorms and even resorted to using their underwear to encase their fossil finds when they ran out of burlap. The story may be too lengthy for impatient preschoolers, but older dinosaur fans will be fascinated.
