Are We There Yet, Daddy?

by Virginia Walters
illustrated by S. D. Schindler
Viking, 1999
“Are we there yet, Daddy?”
Daddy says, “No.”
“How much farther do we have to go?”
“Just look at the map, Son. Then you will know.”
Father and son count down every 10 miles of a 100-mile road trip to Grandma’s. Kids will enjoy tracking the travelers’ route on the easy-to-follow maps and chanting the rhythmic refrain at every stop. The car ride seems to take forever for the impatient narrator, but young readers and listeners won’t want it to end.
