Are Trees Alive?

Are Trees Alive?

Walker & Company, 2002

This lovely, poetic picture book compares the parts of a tree to the parts of a human body, providing a simple, accessible, child-friendly explanation of how trees live and grow. “Leaves breathe for the tree. Trees need air just like you need air. Instead of using noses and lungs, leaves breathe through thousands of tiny pores known as stomata.” The lively, two-page illustrations show trees and children from areas around the world and invite readers to look for the many animals who depend on the trees. Illustrated endnotes describe the trees in more detail, and maps on the endpapers show where the trees grow.
